Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park

Photo: carved man with animals, coloured with red ochre

The Blackfoot people, a large and widespread aboriginal nation of the western plains, have for long considered this canyon of hoodoos beside the the Milk River a magical place.

For the past 800 years, they have painted and carved images on its stone palette, which they connect with the spirit world.
